Land Rover - Journey of Discovery

On the 29th February, the one millionth Land Rover Discovery rolled off the production line to embark on a 50 day, 8,000 mile Journey of Discovery from Birmingham to Beijing.

Inspired by the first 1955 remarkable Overland Journey from England to Singapore which covered 18,000 miles, taking six months and six days. Several other expeditions tried, but no other vehicle managed to get through India, over the jungle-clad mountains of Assam, across northern Burma to Thailand and Malaya.

To mark this one millionth milestone, Land Rover are again embarking on another a remarkable
Journey of Discovery and are aiming to raise
£1 million for the company's Global Humanitarian Partner, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in support of a much needed water sanitation project in Uganda.

The Journey of Discovery: Kiev - Odessa – Sevastopol

Good progress for the Journey of Discovery this weekend, travelling from the Ukrainian capital Kiev to the resort of Odessa then around the Black Sea to Sevastopol on the Crimean peninsula. The four Land Rover Discovery vehicles followed Ukraine's equivalent of Route 66 - the 1,500-mile-long E95, which runs from Merzifon in Turkey to St Petersburg in Russia.

Journey of Discovery - Avalanche Training

The Journey of Discovery has been on the slopes of Pila in the Aosta Valley, Italy where the team discovered the secrets of avalanche control. 20 kilos of explosives detonated a perfectly controlled mini avalanche. Joined by ambassador Ben Saunders, a man well-versed in all matters of snow and survival and cameraman Johno Verity, who himself has survived an avalanche.

The Journey of discovery team added another country to the list on our epic journey. Blink and you could have missed it, but en route to Salzburg in Austria from Milan in Northern Italy we dipped in and out of Germany.

Built into a mountainside to hide the Russian Black Sea fleet, Balaklava was the core outpost of the Russian Cold War effort. Back then, "outsiders" couldn’t get close.

A special place for Land Rover as it is twinned with Coventry, a town very close to Land Rover’s home.
